Why is Famara ideal for learning to surf?
Famara Beach, with its six kilometres of golden sand washed by the Atlantic, is affectionately known as the “Hawaii of Europe”.
Although it can have challenging currents for swimming, those same conditions are part of the character of a beach closely associated with sports such as surfing and kitesurfing. Its sandy seabed —beach break— is one of the reasons so many schools and courses are based here.
Beyond the sport itself, sunsets reflected on the wet sand and the cliffs in the background make the setting an important part of the experience.
If you are spending several days in the Caleta, you can combine your sessions with accommodation in Famara and also check where to eat after surfing.
